We are now just a breath away from Christmas and interest in the holiday weather is reaching its peak. As the festive days approach, the meteorological “scenario” is slowly beginning to clear up, giving us the first indications of how the weather will unfold. The forecast data is converging and allows for a more reliable assessment. Thus, we enter the final stretch with a first glimpse of whether this year’s Christmas will have a wintry mood or milder conditions.
Most areas of the country are expected to receive rainfall, while in mountainous areas and especially at ski resorts, conditions will be suitable even for snowfall.
“Rainy” Christmas for most areas of the country
Sakis Arnaoutoglou, speaking to parapolitika.gr, emphasized that: “The weather during Christmas days will unfold with considerable rain in most areas of the country.” Specifically, as he mentioned, from December 23rd, Western Greece will receive the first rainfall while the same scenario will move to the rest of Greece on December 24th and 25th.
However, Mr. Arnaoutoglou noted that initially “due to southerly winds, the weather will remain ‘mild,’ a fact that will not allow temperature drops. Later, from the 27th of the month, northern winds in the Aegean are expected to bring temperatures down.
According to the same information, snow will make its appearance during Christmas days in Northern Greece and mainly at ski resorts. “Ski resorts located above 1,600 meters should see snow this year, according to forecasts.”
New Year’s weather
Regarding the New Year’s weather and the conditions with which we will welcome the new year, Mr. Arnaoutoglou cautiously mentioned that the new year will arrive with low temperatures. “The trend is to have cold weather on New Year’s Day,” he noted.
