A rainy scenario, but without the intense cold of winter, appears to characterize the Christmas period, according to meteorologist Christina Riga’s forecasts for the weather in the coming days. As Ms. Riga explains to parapolitika.gr, after December 20th the country will be affected by successive low-pressure systems, which will bring rain to several areas. “We will have rain, however without cold weather. Temperatures will be at normal levels for the season, around 13 to 15 degrees Celsius on average at midday”, notes the meteorologist to parapolitika.gr, who emphasizes that extreme winter phenomena are not expected during the holiday period.
Christmas weather: What early data shows – Which areas are affected
Regarding weather developments next week, Christina Riga points out that the rainy pattern will continue, with phenomena mainly affecting the southern parts of the country and the Aegean islands. At the same time, she clarifies that there is no precise picture yet for the distribution of phenomena on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. “With the data available so far, it appears that areas such as the Peloponnese, the Aegean islands, Crete and the Dodecanese will be affected. Early indications show a rainy Christmas,” she characteristically states.
However, the possibility of more winter-like weather toward the end of the month remains open. According to Ms. Riga, “there is a tendency toward the end of December for colder air masses to enter, with snowfall in mountainous areas, something that could lead to a white New Year, at least in mountainous regions of the country.”
Finally, the meteorologist clarifies that Christmas forecasts remain indicative, as “an accurate prediction for the holiday period cannot yet be given,” noting that in the coming days there will be a clearer picture of weather developments.
