Alarm was raised on Sikinos when two hunters accidentally discovered human remains in a particularly rugged and shrub-covered area of the island. According to Cyclades24, the mayor, Vassilis Marakis, was immediately notified and informed the relevant authorities. According to sources, the skeleton belongs to one of two women from France who disappeared in June 2024 during a hiking trip on the island, without giving any signs of life since. The identification was established through personal belongings found next to the remains, including a wallet and bag.
It should be noted that the prescribed procedures began immediately after the discovery, while a new search operation has started to locate the second missing woman. It is recalled that these were a 73-year-old and a 64-year-old, whose traces vanished in June 2024. The case had caused intense mobilization in summer 2024, with extensive searches that lasted for a long period, but without results until today.
