Actress Katerina Gioulaki died today Friday (13.6) at the age of 87. The well-known actress had stayed away from the public spotlight in recent years, while last January her daughter had lashed out at media reports discussing serious health issues.

Katerina Gioulaki was born on March 27, 1938. Her real name was Katerina Giuvarlaki. She studied at the Drama School of the National Theatre. She made her first stage appearance in 1959 with Dinos Iliopoulos’ theater company in the play “The Lady of the Gentleman.” She became mainly known for comedic roles in cinema and later on television. Notable was her television appearance in the early 1970s with the series “I Kokoromyali,” in the mid-80s with the series “Ta Liontarakia tou kyr-Ilia” and “I kyria mas,” as well as during 1990-1992 in the television series “To Retire” by Yannis Dalianidis. She was honored with the Award from the Society of Greek Theatrical Writers (1996).
The new generation particularly loved her through her role as “Katerina” in the series “Retire,” as well as her role as “Filio” in the series “Konstantinos and Eleni.”
