Massive damage has been caused in Finikounda by the passage of Storm Byron, with roads remaining impassable. At the same time, two German tourists were miraculously saved when their accommodation, vehicle, and a camper van were flooded by the waters.

Specifically, the couple, along with their three dogs, was forced to exit through the window of their room as the water level rose dangerously. The two tourists swam to get away from the location and were ultimately rescued thanks to help from neighbors.
According to ERT, a camper van was swept away by the force of the river and ended up on top of the Germans’ car.

Finikounda: Houses and accommodations flooded
The sudden rise in water levels of the river that flows down from Grizokampos and empties into the beach, due to the severe weather, resulted in flooding of homes and accommodations.
According to the same reports, the response from the Fire Department, Police, and services of the Municipality of Pylos-Nestor was immediate, with rescue operations unfolding from the first moments of the flood. The extent of damage to infrastructure and homes will be fully assessed at first light, while the area remains on alert.

Construction machinery from the Peloponnese Region and the Municipality of Pylos-Nestor are heading to the area for immediate intervention, restoration of accessibility, and cleanup of areas where debris and landslides have occurred.
