Tension erupted on the old national highway between Larisa and Volos, outside Platykampos, where farmers had blocked the road today, Sunday (30/11). According to thestival.gr, police forces prevented them from moving toward the national highway, blocking the passage with a patrol car.
This action, however, provoked reactions, with farmers gathering around the vehicle and shaking and hitting it, resulting in a smashed windshield while the police driver was inside.
In fact, as reported by voria.gr, when the patrol car was positioned at the location to prevent the passage of tractors, enraged farmers began shaking the vehicle and even managed to lift it in order to move it and clear the roadway. “We have a million slaughtered animals, take the car away,” the farmers shouted.
As reported by ERT, the national highway was essentially blocked by farmers’ tractors in Platykampos, with the blockade continuously strengthening as time passed. Tension increased when – according to witnesses – police used tear gas at a point in the area to disperse farmers who tried to expand the blockade. Traffic on the Old National Highway is now being conducted through detours on alternative routes.
