Environment and Energy Minister Stavros Papastavrou characterized today as a “historic day” due to the agreement between ExxonMobil, HelleniQ Energy and Energean Hellas, which provides for the concession of participation shares in Block 2 in the Northwestern Ionian Sea. “Today is a historic day. ExxonMobil has agreed with two Greek companies so that the consortium can conduct the first exploratory drilling within the next 18-24 months” the minister specifically emphasized on Mega TV.
“In less than two years we will have the first drilling. We will know if we have commercially exploitable deposits, which will give us energy security and geopolitical power” Mr. Papastavrou added.
Papastavrou on ExxonMobil-Helleniq Energy agreement: “Hydrocarbons are top priority”
Speaking about developments with Chevron as well, he noted: “The Prime Minister has made hydrocarbon sector development a top priority“.
The Environment and Energy Minister discussed how the agreements with American companies were concluded: “Before going to Washington, we managed to establish a very good relationship with Texas and have mutually beneficial partnerships“.
“The real dimension is that it will take us to another level, it will create conditions that will improve the quality of life for Greek women and men. We won’t become emirates, but our country will be able to have significant economic relief” Mr. Papastavrou concluded.
