The disposable income of households and non-profit institutions serving households increased by 4.5% in 2024 compared to 2023, rising from €151.7 billion to €158.6 billion, according to ELSTAT. Meanwhile, final consumption expenditure also increased by 4.6% in 2024 compared to 2023, from €155.4 billion to €162.6 billion. It should be noted that this rise occurred despite the fact that last year’s savings rate was -2.5% compared to -2.4% in 2023.

ELSTAT: Greece’s economy showed net borrowing of €13 billion in 2024
According to the annual non-financial institutional sector accounts from ELSTAT: The investment rate of non-financial corporations, defined as gross fixed capital formation to gross value added, was 25.2% in 2024 compared to 25.1% in 2023.
Imports of goods and services reached €112.8 billion last year, up from €109.3 billion in 2023. Exports of goods and services amounted to €99.7 billion, up from €98.5 billion in 2023. The external trade balance of goods and services showed a deficit of €13.1 billion compared to a deficit of €10.8 billion recorded in 2023. Meanwhile, in 2024 the overall economy showed net borrowing of €13 billion from abroad, compared to 2023 when net borrowing amounted to €12.6 billion.
