The first official valuation for olive oil from the new 2025-2026 harvest has been announced, bringing the price to 7.85 euros per kilogram, as announced by the Agricultural Cooperative of Agioi Apostoloi. This specific olive oil price resulted from the sale of the first loads of Athinolia variety olive oil.
First olive oil auction of the new harvest
According to powergame.gr, after the successful completion of the open auction held on Saturday, October 4, 2025, the Agricultural Cooperative of Agioi Apostoloi sold two tanks of extra virgin olive oil. The price achieved for the new 2025-2026 harvest product reached 7.85 euros per kilogram.
Factors determining olive oil prices
According to recent statements by Myron Chiletzakis, president of small ETHEASA cooperatives, olive oil price formation depends exclusively on production levels at the European level. When countries like Spain face reduced production, this leads to increased European prices. Unfortunately, climate change has negatively affected this year’s production compared to the previous year. This factor is expected to impact the overall olive oil supply in the market.
Forecasts for producer and consumer prices
According to Mr. Chiletzakis, producer prices for conventional fresh olive oils are expected to range between 5.00 and 5.50 euros per kilogram. The start of the new period depends on weather conditions, particularly rainfall.
Regarding the final price for consumers, the situation presents particular complexity:
- During 2022-23, despite an average producer price of 5 euros, olive oil reached store shelves with prices touching 14 euros
- Fresh olive oil doesn’t reach consumers directly, resulting in additional costs from intermediaries
- Estimates for the retail price of new olive oil range below 10 euros per kilogram
The new olive oil price reflects international trends and challenges facing the sector. Reduced production due to climatic conditions continues to affect availability and consequently product prices.
