A Joint Ministerial Decree (JMD) for the heating fuel subsidy will be issued by the end of October by the ministries of National Economy and Finance and Environment and Energy, with a budget of approximately 200 million euros and benefits for 1.2 million households, as stated by government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis today, Monday (20/10), during the regular briefing for political editors.
The heating allowance can reach up to 1,000 and 1,200 euros
As the government spokesperson further mentioned, the first installment, which will cover approximately 60% of the allowance, a percentage that translates to an allowance ranging from 100 to 800 euros, will be paid before Christmas, while, according to the planned income criteria, the heating allowance can reach up to 1,000 and 1,200 euros for residents of areas experiencing low temperatures.
It’s worth noting that, as Pavlos Marinakis also mentioned, when heating oil distribution began – in mid-October – its price was the lowest in the last four years.
Details of what Pavlos Marinakis said about the heating allowance and high prices
Specifically, Pavlos Marinakis stated during the political editors’ briefing about high prices and the heating allowance: “The fight against high prices is ongoing and constitutes the Government’s top priority. We recently had two positive developments on this ‘front’. The first concerns price reductions – on average by 8%, across approximately 2,200 codes of basic products from retail companies and suppliers.
Through e-katanalotis, citizens can stay informed about the selling prices of goods they’re interested in at supermarkets and search for the most economically advantageous option. At the same time, market inspections by DIMEA continue and fines are imposed where violations are detected.
The second positive development on the ‘front’ against high prices relates to the selling price of heating oil. When its distribution began – in mid-October – its price was the lowest in the last four years. By the end of October, the Joint Ministerial Decree of the Ministers of National Economy and Finance and Environment and Energy for heating fuel subsidies will be issued, with a budget of approximately 200 million euros and benefits for 1.2 million households.
According to Environment and Energy Minister Stavros Papastavrou, the first installment will be paid before Christmas, approximately 60% of the allowance, a percentage that translates to an allowance ranging from 100 to 800 euros, according to the planned income criteria, which can reach up to 1,000 and 1,200 euros for residents of areas experiencing low temperatures”.
