The tightening grip on the fuel market continues as the Greek tax authority (AADE) intensifies inspections and imposes fines up to €15,000 on those who fail to register their data timely in the Tank Registry. The new framework, established by joint ministerial decision, defines violations, competent control bodies, and penalty collection procedures in detail. Those who fail to comply with data recording obligations for fuel stations and heating oil dealer installations face heavy penalties.

Specifically:
- Fines range from €500 to €15,000, depending on the severity and frequency of the violation, while the maximum total amount for each liable party cannot exceed €15,000.

- For complete failure to register, a fine of €15,000 is imposed, while for non-registration of data, fines range from €3,000 to €4,000 for fuel station license holders or heating oil dealers and from €1,500 to €4,000 for installers of input-output systems and volumetric service providers.
- For inaccurate registrations, fines reach up to €3,000 per item, while for overdue registration, fines of €500 to €1,500 per item are provided, with a maximum total burden of €6,000 per liable party.

- In cases of fuel station transfer or installation of a new heating oil dealer, failure to update data results in a fine of €2,000 per non-updated item, with a maximum limit of €15,000.
- The Tank Registry, available through the Unified Digital Portal (gov.gr), collects all data for fuel tanks, pumps, tax mechanisms, and heating oil dealer installations. The system interoperates with the “Fuel and Energy Station Registry” of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, ensuring unified and reliable data.
Fuel station inspections
The Directorates of Transport and Communications and the Development Directorates of Regional Units are responsible for checking the accuracy of registrations, depending on their competence. Services compile inspection reports and conclusive reports, which are forwarded to local customs offices. Customs offices are responsible for issuing penalty imposition acts and their collection according to the Public Revenue Collection Code.
