On October 31st, the posting of circulation fees for 2026 is expected to begin on the electronic platform “MyCar” of the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (IAPR). Vehicle owners are called upon to be informed and proceed with payment of circulation fees within the deadline, December 31st (without extensions), as this year there is a significant change in the way penalties are calculated in case of late payment.
Circulation fees 2026: Penalties for late payment
Specifically, penalties for late payment are calculated progressively: 25% if paid during January, 50% in February and 100% from March onwards. The minimum penalty is 30 euros. For fees of 100 euros, the driver pays 125 euros if settled in January, 150 euros in February and 200 euros from March onwards. Before proceeding with payment or declaring immobilization, drivers need to know three basic points.
First, each year’s fees burden the vehicle holder as they appear in the IAPR registry on January 1st.
Second, in cases of co-ownership, notifications are issued to all co-owners, but payment by one covers all; if not paid, all are jointly liable for the total amount.
Third, those who want to avoid the fees can immobilize their vehicle until the end of the year, electronically through myCAR. However, if they declare immobilization and are found circulating, a penalty of 10,000 euros is imposed, 30,000 euros in case of repeat offense, and license suspension for three years.
