The Independent Authority for Public Revenue is proceeding to abolish mandatory receipt printing at toll stations, aiming to reduce paper consumption, protect the environment, and improve traffic flow at toll collection points.
According to the circular from the IAPR administrator (E.2087/2025), Giorgos Pitsilis, for private vehicle passages through closed highways or bridges with toll systems, service receipts are issued normally, but printing is not required, provided the driver is informed and chooses not to receive the printed copy.
This regulation solves a chronic environmental issue that all citizens have witnessed on Greek roads – drivers discarding printed receipts on the road immediately after passing through toll stations.
Reduced toll crossing times with IAPR initiative
Additionally, this initiative has an immediate positive impact for drivers, as it is expected to significantly reduce crossing and waiting times at toll stations, especially during peak traffic periods, thus contributing to road network decongestion.
Finally, it should be noted that, based on administrator decision A.1066/2025, the IAPR regularly receives encrypted electronic files from highway concessionaires containing passage data (vehicle registration numbers per day as well as the Unique Passage Number), ensuring proper receipt issuance, regardless of whether they are printed or not.
