Income and asset criteria for heating allowance
The income limits that apply for granting the heating allowance vary according to the family status of applicants. Specifically, single and widowed individuals are entitled to subsidies with annual income up to €16,000, while married couples and individuals in civil partnerships can apply with income up to €24,000.
Single-parent families have a higher limit of €29,000, with additional increases for each dependent child. Additionally, there are asset criteria that must be met: €200,000 for single persons and €260,000 for married couples without children, with an additional €40,000 for each dependent child.
Who qualifies for heating allowance and for which fuels
The heating allowance is available to individuals who use specific fuels for winter heating of their homes. The subsidy covers a wide range of energy sources:
• Heating oil and lamp oil (blue kerosene)
• Wood fuel and biomass (pellets)
• LPG and natural gas
• District heating and electricity
It’s important to note that each beneficiary can choose subsidy for only one type of fuel per period.
Heating allowance payment schedule
The heating allowance payment process will begin in early December 2025 with the first installment. Payments will be made gradually until July 2026, depending on the type of fuel and recorded consumption of each household.
The staggered payment of the heating allowance aims to better distribute resources and provide more effective support to beneficiaries during the winter period.
