The Parliamentary Budget Office is sounding the alarm for immediate and effective solutions to address the housing crisis in Greece before it takes on even more explosive dimensions. Presenting the Office’s report, its head, Yiannis Tsoukalas, proposed -among other measures- that the government should provide interest-free loans and other incentives for property renovations to owners, in order to make more homes available for rent to citizens as soon as possible and halt the rapid increase in rental prices. The housing issue, he added, requires faster solutions and not delays in implementing measures, without ignoring the time needed for policies to mature.
On the economic front, the Parliamentary Budget Office report characterizes Greece as an “island of stability” that demonstrates good fiscal performance in a constantly changing environment, while emphasizing that “commitment to rapid implementation of reforms and boosting productive investments are critical factors for accelerating the economy’s growth rate in the future”.
