Within the first half of October, the list of 1,000 product codes at supermarkets that will have their prices reduced will be released. This was announced by the Ministry of Development following today’s meeting between Development Minister Takis Theodorikakos and representatives of retail chains. The discussion focused on the initiative to reduce prices on 1,000 product codes on supermarket shelves. It is noted that the ministry has collaborated with both the Hellenic Food Industries Association and the Greek Supermarket Union on this initiative.

Theodorikakos: We are fighting continuously to improve citizens’ quality of life in their daily routine
Mr. Theodorikakos made the following statement after the meeting concluded: “We are fighting continuously to improve citizens’ quality of life in their daily routine, through tax cuts and wage increases. At the same time, wherever we have control, we conduct constant inspections to protect consumers, implement the code of ethics, and push for price reductions with results, managing to achieve food inflation of 1.4% compared to 3% in the Eurozone.
The initiative to reduce prices on 1,000 product codes on supermarket shelves is undoubtedly positive and necessary. But supermarket chains should also reduce their average profit margins so prices can be lowered on even more product codes, for an even longer period, with the largest possible reduction percentage, to help households that are struggling. This is a matter of social responsibility and cohesion.”
