In an era of major geostrategic changes creating uncertainty worldwide, the European economy and competitiveness of member states are being tested. This was highlighted by Development Minister Takis Theodorikakos, speaking at the 5th Thessaloniki Metropolitan Summit, co-organized by The Economist and powergame.gr. The minister noted that in this context, the role of defense and military industry is once again in the spotlight for strengthening European defense, while emphasizing that regional economies can play a significant role in such an environment.

Meanwhile, on the sidelines of the conference, speaking to parapolitika.gr cameras, Takis Theodorikakos referred to the Development Ministry’s agreement with supermarkets and the Association of Greek Food Industries (SEVT) regarding price reductions. In response to a related question, he said that in 2-3 weeks consumers will see price cuts on 1,000 product codes on store shelves.
“We are taking successive initiatives to contribute to reducing the cost of living for citizens,” the minister said.
Takis Theodorikakos: Urgent need for EU to find its position on raw materials utilization
Opening his speech at the conference, Takis Theodorikakos emphasized the importance of supporting landmark investments, such as gallium production by the METLEN group, which is among the critical raw materials for European strategy. He also highlighted that there is an urgent need for the EU to quickly find its position regarding raw materials utilization and, by extension, international competition.
Furthermore, he stressed that Greece is moving toward changing its production model by strengthening the role of industry, while simultaneously serving the green transition and promoting technological development.
