Negative are the first indicators from the course of the hospitality and hotel market, according to high-ranking industry executives and companies that distribute products such as beer, soft drinks and bottled water, which are mainly consumed in these establishments.
As noted by Sofoklis Panagiotou, former president of the Hellenic Brewers Association and member of the organization’s governing committee, a decline in the beer market approaching 10% is recorded during the first five months of 2025, compared to the corresponding period of 2024. This reduction is attributed both to restrained tourist consumption and to the low mobility of Greek consumers, who are limiting their spending in the hospitality sector due to reduced disposable income and high prices for products and services.
Additional circumstantial factors also contributed to shaping this picture. This year’s unstable weather with frequent rainfall during the first five months of the year, combined with the temporal shift of Easter – which in 2025 was celebrated earlier, in April, as opposed to 2024 when it fell on May 5 – negatively affected demand and consumption in the market.
