Stock prices faced strong pressure in today’s Athens Stock Exchange session, amid negative sentiment in international markets. Similar conditions prevailed in European stock markets, with the largest losses recorded by France’s CAC-40, affected by the new political crisis in France and the American President’s intervention in the Fed’s independence.
The General Price Index closed at 2,076.57 points with a decline of 1.87%, while during the session it recorded a low of 2,063.63 points (-2.48%). Trading value surged to €458.43 million with 81,327,440 shares changing hands, partly due to inflows from MSCI index restructuring.
The large-cap index fell 1.97% and the mid-cap index declined 0.90%. Among large-cap stocks, gains were recorded by Optima Bank (+1.00%), EYDAP (+0.97%) and Aegean Airlines (+0.27%), while the biggest declines were seen in Alpha Bank (-6.32%), National Bank (-2.97%), Sarantis (-2.93%), Coca Cola HBC (-2.78%), Jumbo (-2.02%), Eurobank (-1.99%) and PPC (-1.91%). The highest trading volume was recorded by Alpha Bank and Eurobank with 34,994,158 and 14,962,582 shares respectively, while the highest trading value was recorded by Alpha Bank with €125.88 million and National Bank with €67.41 million. Overall, 20 stocks moved higher, 95 declined and 11 remained unchanged, with the biggest gains recorded by Kekrops (+5.16%) and Dromeas (+3.88%) and the biggest losses by Attikes Ekdoseis (-7.44%) and Doppler (-6.90%).
