Without pause throughout August, inspectors from the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) are sweeping through popular tourist destinations, conducting extensive preventive audits. Under AADE’s microscope are islands with increased tourist activity, including Lemnos, Mytilene, Tinos, Crete (Chania and Heraklion), Santorini, Rhodes, and Poros.

AADE: Chaos from violations
The inspections revealed violations in food service businesses (cafes, bars, restaurants, tavernas), entertainment venues, and services such as manicure-pedicure and beach equipment rental (umbrellas, chairs). Common denominator? Failure to issue receipts. In all cases, the measure of 48-hour business closure and fine imposition was applied.
Additionally, AADE has requested multi-year data from these businesses to determine – based on their tax behavior and cross-referencing with its own data – whether other violations exist. Intensive inspections continue nationwide throughout the tourist season, aiming to combat tax evasion and enhance market transparency – benefiting both compliant businesses and consumers.
