A joint ministerial decision by Minister of National Economy and Finance Kyriakos Pierrakakis and Deputy Minister for Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Konstantinos Katsafados, published in the Official Government Gazette (Government Gazette B’ 5579/15.09.2026), provides for a 12-month suspension of all enforcement actions against the movable and immovable property of individuals and legal entities affected by the wildfires of July and August 2026.

What the enforcement suspension means for wildfire victims
The suspension covers, among other measures, auctions, seizures, evictions, and personal detentions, as well as the suspension of deadlines for filing legal remedies related to pending enforcement proceedings. The only exception applies to maintenance and alimony claims.
The decision applies to individuals and businesses that have been officially certified as wildfire-affected by the relevant Regional Authorities and have been included either in the state relief framework or in the housing assistance and household contents compensation programme.
The suspension applies to areas officially designated as disaster zones within the following Regional Units: a) West Attica and the Islands of the Attica Region, b) Achaia and Aetolia-Acarnania of the West Greece Region, c) Kefalonia and Ithaca of the Ionian Islands Region, d) Lasithi and Rethymno of the Crete Region, e) Argolis of the Peloponnese Region, f) Boeotia, Euboea, and Phocis of the Central Greece Region, g) Kalymnos, Paros, and Andros of the South Aegean Region, h) the Metropolitan Unit of Thessaloniki and Chalkidiki of the Central Macedonia Region, and i) Lesbos of the North Aegean Region. The start date for each area corresponds to the date on which it was officially designated as a disaster zone.
