International air arrivals increased during the January–June 2025 period by 5.7%, according to data presented by INSETE. Specifically, 10.3 million arrivals were recorded, marking an increase of +556 thousand compared to the corresponding period of 2024. Moreover, June 2025 alone showed an increase of +206 thousand/+5.4% compared to June 2024, recording 4 million arrivals.
It should be noted that the first half of 2025 remains positive across individual geographical regions. Specifically, the highest number of international air arrivals was recorded in Crete, with 1.9 million passengers, up by +86 thousand/+4.7% compared to the corresponding period of 2024. The Dodecanese followed with 1.5 million arrivals (+19 thousand/+1.3%) and the Ionian Islands with 1.3 million passengers, showing an increase of +59 thousand/+4.9%. In the Peloponnese, arrivals reached 81 thousand passengers (+7 thousand/+9.7%). Conversely, the Cyclades was the only geographical region that recorded a decrease, with 328 thousand arrivals, down by -42 thousand/-11.5% compared to 2024.
INSETE: Revenue increase in H1 2025
During the January-May 2025 period, travel receipts recorded growth of +12.7% compared to the corresponding period of 2024 and reached 4.352 billion euros. This development is due to both the increase in receipts from residents of European Union countries by +10.9%, which reached 2.327 billion euros, and the rise in receipts from residents of other countries by +15.1%, which reached 1.813 billion euros. More specifically, receipts from residents of eurozone countries reached 1.880 billion euros, up by +3.6%, while receipts from residents of European Union countries outside the eurozone increased by +57.2% and reached 447 million euros.
Meanwhile, receipts from Germany recorded growth of +9.9% and reached 772 million euros, while receipts from France decreased by -7.8% and reached 264 million euros. Receipts from Italy were also down by -4.8%, reaching 165 million euros. From other countries, receipts from the United Kingdom showed growth of +13.3%, reaching 481 million euros, while receipts from the USA also increased by +15.9% and reached 457 million euros.
INSETE: Upward trend in short-term rentals continues
The development of short-term rental properties during H1 2025 shows continued growth compared to the corresponding period of 2024, continuing the trend that began in 2023 and strengthened in 2024. The second quarter also started positively, as April recorded 228 thousand properties, up by +16 thousand compared to April 2024 (212 thousand). In May, the increase continued with 236 thousand properties, +18 thousand more than the 218 thousand in May 2024. Finally, in June the number of properties reached 242 thousand, recording a new increase of +17 thousand compared to 225 thousand in June 2024. The continuous increase further strengthens the upward momentum established from the beginning of the year.
The upward trend in available short-term rental beds continues steadily in H1 2025, following the positive picture of 2024. The second quarter started with strong growth, with April recording 1.008 million beds, up by +73 thousand compared to 935 thousand in April 2024. In May, available beds were 1.038 million, +76 thousand more than the 962 thousand in May 2024. In June, beds increased further to 1.061 million, marking an increase of +70 thousand compared to 991 thousand in June 2024. Notably, the threshold of 1 million beds was exceeded already in April 2025, much earlier compared to July 2024, which is also the peak month for tourism. May and June 2025 recorded consecutive records in the number of available short-term rental beds (1.038 thousand and 1.061 thousand respectively), marking the highest values from January 2019 to date, with the next highest performance being August 2024 (1.023 thousand).
