Authorities proceeded with the arrest of a suspect from Thasos after he allegedly made threats against auditors from the Kavala Customs Office, who were involved in an investigation into a smuggling case. The suspect had been identified as being implicated in the smuggling of goods, and as a result, the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) had frozen his bank account.
The suspect discovered his funds had been frozen — and that’s when things escalated
The case took a serious turn when the suspect discovered that his bank account had been frozen, triggering an aggressive response. According to AADE sources, he contacted the auditors by phone and threatened to send “well-known enforcers” from Kavala to “bring them in line.” He reportedly told them: “You’ll be scrambling to find a place to live.” The auditors reported the incident to the police, and the suspect was arrested on the spot under flagrante delicto provisions. He was subsequently released, with a court date to be set at a later time.
