Papathanasis: Home renovation platform opens June 15
In detail, the Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance speaking to ANT1 said: “On Monday, everyone can check if they are eligible for the program and if they are, from September 1 they can proceed with their application,” the minister noted and added that until September 1, someone can obtain the building identity and energy performance certificate if they wish. “It’s not mandatory. We have provided that in applications this could be covered with a statutory declaration.”
Expanded income criteria
Regarding income criteria, he noted that these are expanded, giving as an example that a 4-member family with €45,000 total income can be eligible. Regarding how the program will be implemented, the minister noted that first “we will start with applications for lower subsidies. Then, we’ll move to around €25,000 subsidies and then to applications for around €36,000. It will be done gradually so that approval of those requesting lower amounts can start immediately to proceed faster with renovations.”
“Around 25,000 houses will be renovated”
Nikos Papathanasis among other things emphasized: “We estimate that around 25,000 houses will be renovated.” He added that the program’s budget reaches €500 million. According to him, the program concerns homes built until 1990 which, after renovation, must either be rented for 5 years with fixed rent for 3 years, or for owner occupation. Additionally, he clarified that these houses cannot be rented for short-term leasing.
In conclusion, referring to the method and timing of payment from the program, he noted that “upon approval we will release the amount and put it in a special account,” so that “it can be absorbed very quickly.”
