How long do summer sales last
Summer sales 2025 started on Monday, July 14th and will last until Sunday, August 31st. This duration gives you about seven weeks to spot the real opportunities in summer sales. Not just to buy whatever you find in front of you.
Stores open on Sunday during sales
We all love a little Sunday stroll through commercial streets for summer sales. This year, stores will be open on Sunday, July 20th (first Sunday after the start of sales) with hours 11:00–18:00. If you’re in central Athens neighborhoods like Glyfada and Kifissia, in Piraeus, or in Thessaloniki, they’ll usually be open every Sunday.
To benefit from summer sales without falling victim to fraud, you need to watch out for certain basic elements:
• True reference price: When you see “50% off,” there must be the previous price on the label (the lowest price from the previous 30 days)
• Know what you want: Make a list of what you need before going for summer sales
• Compare prices: Check products in 2–3 stores, even online
• Product inspection: Even if it’s on sale, give it a test drive
• Return policy and receipts: Ask for a receipt with date and return terms
What you should buy in summer sales
If you see a product that says “€150” before and now “€75,” but it never sold for more than €100, then something has gone wrong. The law doesn’t allow it and you shouldn’t accept it. Don’t go just for “shopping therapy” in summer sales. Put down your phone, make a list of what you need: water bottle, swimsuit, smartphone, laptop, TV, or new gadgets. This way you don’t go overboard and don’t shop like you’re in a survival reality show.
Take screenshots and keep records from summer sales. If you can’t manage with your phone, keep a piece of paper, whatever works for you to compare prices. Any return must be made within 14 days, with the receipt in your pocket. Don’t believe anything if they tell you “you bought it, you saw it” and the seller winks at you during summer sales.
Guidelines for safe shopping in summer sales
The Greek Consumer Workers Union suggests the following tips for safe and responsible shopping during summer sales 2025:
- Set priorities and shop based on your budget
- Compare prices before purchasing
- Don’t be impressed only by large discount percentages
- Check the quality and authenticity of products
- Learn what applies for warranty or replacement in case of defective products
Finally, it’s emphasized that consumers must be careful and able to recognize misleading or illegal practices during summer sales. Information and caution are the best tools for beneficial purchases.
