By the end of April, private sector businesses must adjust their employees’ wages to the new minimum wage and seniority allowances that took effect yesterday, providing net annual increases ranging from 402 to 485 euros. Meanwhile, enforcement controls for labor legislation are tightening with the expansion of the Work Card system to new sectors employing 250,000 workers.
Specifically regarding the increase, the minimum wage rises from 880 to 920 euros gross, an increase of 4.55%, with full-time employees receiving approximately 31 euros more per month net. The daily wage for manual workers increases from 39.30 euros to 41.09 euros, while public sector salary scales increase by 40 euros. Since 2019, the cumulative increase reaches 270 euros monthly or 3,780 euros annually – equivalent to 4.2-5.8 additional monthly salaries, representing a total 41.54% increase since 2019.
The minimum wage and daily wage increase directly benefits 1.5 million citizens, including approximately 700,000 private sector positions, all public employees, those receiving benefits and allowances calculated based on minimum wage (such as maternity benefits, parental leave, unemployment benefits), and seniority allowances. The increase also indirectly affects the average wage, which according to the annual ERGANI system report for 2025 reached 1,516 euros.
