Starting tomorrow, Sunday, March 1st through March 10th, the Greek Tax Authority (AADE) will press “pause” on the electronic services of the Business Registry in order to proceed with the automatic mapping of Business Activity Codes (KAD) for professionals and businesses based on new European statistical standards.
With the temporary deactivation of the Registry, businesses and freelancers will not be able to submit requests for business startups, data modifications, or business closures. Meanwhile, citizens will be limited in their daily digital transactions, as they won’t be able to update their personal information or residential address.
This disruption, however, is temporary, as digital applications will return to full operation immediately after completing the migration and data alignment with new European statistical standards.
This involves the update and mapping of 1.9 million tax numbers with active business activities that will be performed automatically by AADE without requiring any action from taxpayers. If needed, citizens and businesses will be able to check and correct their data through digital applications once they return to full operation.
Based on instructions from AADE Administrator Georgios Pitsilis, AADE will automatically update all businesses’ Activity Codes (KAD) according to the approved mapping table. The new KADs will be systematically registered in the company’s Registry without requiring action from the taxpayer. The KADs valid on March 1, 2026 will be mapped to a new code starting with digit 8 and having a length of 5 digits. The new KADs replace the old ones in AADE’s tax registry.
The automatic KAD update process by AADE includes the following stages:
- automatic replacement of existing KADs with corresponding new ones
- notification to the taxpayer with a relevant message about completion of the mapping process
- correction of any registration/modification/removal (discontinuation) of KAD by the taxpayer, with the date being the automatic mapping date, through the special digital application on the myAADE digital portal (myaade.gov.gr) “Business Data Modification” and “Domestic Establishment Data Modification” until June 1, 2026, without penalty imposition.
- in case an existing activity corresponds to more than one new KADs, AADE designates one of them as the main KAD and registers the rest as secondary ones, provided there is activity relevance according to available data.
- taxpayers can review the completion of mapping and the new KADs as they resulted from the automatic mapping process by checking the current status and their modification history through the “Registry Certificates” application on the “Registry and Communication” platform of AADE’s myAADE digital portal.
- taxpayers who will proceed with registration/modification/discontinuation of existing activity code numbers submit a declaration through the special digital application on the myAADE digital portal (myaade.gov.gr) “Business Data Modification” with a modification date later than the mapping date, and the declaration is examined. The declaration is also submitted for registration/modification/discontinuation of KAD in domestic branches through the “Domestic Establishment Data Modification” application, provided the KAD has already been declared at the company’s headquarters.
