Categories that drove inflation higher
The 2.8% inflation increase in June 2025 primarily resulted from significant changes in specific groups of goods and services that affected the Consumer Price Index.
The main increases that contributed to inflation were recorded in the following categories:
• Housing: 7.2% increase due to rising housing rents, home repairs and maintenance, household services, electricity and natural gas
• Hotels, cafes, restaurants: 7.1% increase in prices for restaurants, patisseries, cafes and hotels
• Clothing and footwear: 4.9% increase in clothing and footwear items
• Education: 2.6% increase in tuition fees for preschool, primary and secondary education
• Food and non-alcoholic beverages: 2.3% increase in bread, cereals, meat, fish, dairy products and fruits
Categories that limited inflation
Despite the general inflation increase, certain categories showed decreases that limited the overall CPI rise. The most significant decrease was recorded in the Transport group with a 1.4% drop, mainly due to price reductions in used cars and fuel.
Additionally, in certain categories such as food, inflation increases were limited by price reductions in products like olive oil and seasonings. In housing, the decrease in heating oil and solid fuel prices offset part of the overall increase.
