The EU ban on Russian natural gas from autumn 2027 is now officially law, with Stavros Papastavrou commenting on energy developments directly affecting Greece, focusing on two key issues. Initially, Mr. Papastavrou characterized the Vertical Corridor as a matter of national interest and strategic choice. This is because – as he explained – its success “changes the balance of power, as it creates alternative routes for Europe, upgrades Greece’s role as a reliable energy hub in the region and limits Turkey’s energy role.” Additionally, Mr. Papastavrou announced that “Chevron’s leadership is coming to Athens within the next two weeks to sign the four contracts,” clarifying that immediately after, the process moves to Parliament.
