Just days before the deadline and following new statements by US President Donald Trump, the New York Stock Exchange is moving downward at opening, dragged down by uncertainty surrounding tariffs that the US will impose. As trading began, the Dow Jones industrial index fell 0.19%, the Nasdaq index of high-tech companies dropped 0.54%, and the broader S&P 500 index declined 0.38%.
Earlier, White House trade advisor Peter Navarro said that “negotiations are progressing well” and defended the promise he had made that the administration would achieve 90 trade deals within 90 days.
“I am satisfied with the progress we have made, because every country with which we had a significant deficit has fully committed. I think what we are learning from the negotiations is simply (…) how difficult it is for these countries to abandon the advantage they have over us,” Navarro said in an interview with the CNBC television network.
