Turkish citizens have started increasing their trips to Greece as they shop more cheaply at Greek supermarkets using cars or even buses. In fact, according to Turkish media reports that have given extensive coverage to the news, many Turkish citizens are increasing their trips to twice a week, mainly for purchasing ground beef.
A newspaper editor also purchased food items including meat, milk and pasta. The difference? The same basket that would cost 3,709 liras (72 euros) in Turkey, cost 2,433 liras (47.2 euros) here.
“In the past, Greeks used to come to Turkey for shopping. But when our prices skyrocketed, the situation reversed,” she characteristically states in her report in the Sozcu newspaper, where the topic even made the front page.
She also presented price comparisons of the same products between Turkey and Greece, in order to highlight the high prices in the neighboring country.
