A new round of payments for the rent refund begins on Thursday, January 15, with thousands of beneficiaries awaiting the crediting of amounts to their bank accounts. This specific payment concerns those who made modifications to their tax returns or completed pending matters after December 13.
Who is eligible for the new rent refund payment
The payment made on January 15 concerns exclusively taxpayers who took action during the period from December 13 to December 30, 2025. Specifically, rent refund amounts will be paid to those who submitted their declaration for the first time or modified existing data for the 2024 tax year. The categories of beneficiaries who will receive payments include taxpayers who submitted an amended return, corrected information in Table 6 of form E1 such as lessor details and annual rent, added expenses for primary or student housing that had been omitted, or resolved pending matters within the specified timeframe.
Automatic crediting process without additional actions
The disbursement of amounts will be carried out automatically through the Independent Authority for Public Revenue platform. Beneficiaries do not need to take any additional action, as the money will be credited directly to the bank accounts registered in the system. The recalculation of the rent refund is based on the total annual rent paid during the 2024 tax year, either for primary or student housing. The process is executed automatically taking into account the updated data from the submitted declarations.
Valid IBAN declaration essential for completion
A basic prerequisite for the successful completion of the payment is the registration of a valid IBAN account on the myAADE digital portal. Taxpayers can declare their bank account through the Registry and Communication path, selecting IBAN Account Declaration, or alternatively through the myAADEapp application in the Communication Details section. For clarifications and information regarding the rent refund, interested parties can contact AADE Taxpayer Services through the my1521 service.
Thousands of beneficiaries have not declared bank accounts
A significant fact is that at least 24,000 beneficiaries have not yet declared their bank accounts, despite being entitled to receive the corresponding amounts. This means that despite the approval of the rent refund, payment cannot be completed due to the lack of necessary banking details. It remains to be seen whether these specific taxpayers took advantage of the final deadline given to them to complete the process. Timely IBAN registration is crucial for the smooth disbursement of amounts.
Preparations for this year’s rent refund
From now on, the competent services will begin preparatory actions for the rent refund concerning the current year. The data stated in rental contracts as well as information included in tax returns to be submitted within 2025 will be taken into account. The process for the next tax year is expected to follow a similar framework, with beneficiaries needing to ensure the accuracy of their data and timely submission of required declarations for the smooth disbursement of the rent refund.
