The last working day of 2025 brings critical deadlines for taxpayers. Today marks the final opportunity to pay 2026 vehicle registration fees, while several important tax obligations require immediate settlement. Timely payment prevents additional charges and penalties that activate from the first day of the new year. The electronic platforms of the Independent Authority for Public Revenue and Taxisnet will remain open until 11 PM, offering citizens the final hours to complete necessary actions. More than 700,000 vehicles remain unpaid, while specific tax returns close permanently at the end of the fiscal year.

Vehicle registration fee payment and digital license plate surrender
Payment of vehicle registration fees for 2026 represents today’s most urgent obligation. The amounts posted on the myCAR platform remain at the same levels as the previous year and apply to all vehicles in circulation. The payment process is conducted through the IAPR’s digital services or electronic banking. According to official data from the Ministry of National Economy and Finance, approximately 4.8 million car owners had paid by yesterday. This means about 700,000 vehicles remain outstanding, with owners having only a few hours to meet the deadline.
From January 1st, a new penalty system for late payment of vehicle registration fees takes effect. Instead of the previous system that imposed a 100% penalty immediately after the deadline, a graduated burden now applies: 25% for payment within January, 50% for settlement within February, and 100% from March 1st onward. The same penalties apply even for partial payments of fees.
Meanwhile, today also marks the deadline for digital declaration of vehicle inactivity. Owners who do not wish to pay 2026 vehicle registration fees can submit electronic license plate surrender through the myCAR platform until the end of the day.
Sixth installment of income tax and electronic expenses
Taxpayers who have chosen to pay income tax in eight monthly installments must pay the sixth installment today. This specific tax obligation concerns the tax resulting from the previous year’s income tax returns.
Additionally, to avoid additional tax in 2026, employees, pensioners and farmers must complete the required percentage of electronic transactions by midnight. This percentage amounts to 30% of annual income and must be covered by transactions conducted in 2025 through cards, electronic banking and other digital payment methods.
Tenth installment of ENFIA and other tax obligations
Property owners who have chosen to pay the Single Property Tax in 12 monthly installments are called to pay the tenth installment for 2025. The first installment was paid in late March, with two installments remaining until full payment in February 2026.
An important deadline also expires for employees and pensioners who received retroactive amounts during 2024. They must submit amended returns for these amounts, regardless of the year to which they refer. Returns are submitted separately for each tax year electronically, while the resulting tax is paid by January 31, 2026, with the possibility of arrangement in up to 48 interest-bearing installments.
Returns for parental provisions and deceased persons
Returns for monetary parental provisions and gifts used to cover lifestyle evidence or acquire assets must be submitted electronically through the myPROPERTY application within the day.
Meanwhile, relatives and heirs of taxpayers who died during 2024 must submit tax returns by today. The process is conducted electronically by legal heirs, provided the tax registry has been updated with the date of death and heir information. Additionally, taxpayers who transferred their tax residence abroad for the first time during 2024 must complete their tax return submission within the deadline.
Digital applications closing at 11 PM
The IAPR’s electronic services will operate today until 11 PM for critical applications related to payments and return submissions. Even if someone has logged in before this time, the system will not accept completion and submission of returns after 11 PM. On New Year’s Day, certain digital applications will remain temporarily out of service due to the fiscal year closure and will be gradually reactivated from January 2nd.
Specifically, until 11 PM, the myPROPERTY digital application for submitting property transfer tax, gift, parental provision and inheritance returns will operate, the Property Registry for electronic submission and correction of property data, the application for electronic submission of individual income tax returns for tax years 2015 to 2024, VAT and corporate income tax return submissions through the myAADE platform, as well as payment of certified debts using bank cards and the IRIS system.
The digital application for submitting salary, pension and fee certificates for tax year 2024 closes permanently today at 11 PM. From January 1, 2026, the digital application for issuing 2026 ENFIA Certificates and corresponding payment receipts becomes operational.
