The countdown has begun for rent rebate payments, with 2026 bringing multiple deposits for specific professional groups. According to official announcements, thousands of beneficiaries will see money in their accounts more than once during the year, with some receiving up to three payments.
Approximately 50,000 doctors, nurses, and educators working away from their home base, primarily in rural areas, will receive a total of three rent rebates during 2026, with the first payment scheduled for the first quarter of the year.
Rent rebate with retroactive payments during 2026
As stated by Deputy Minister of National Economy Georgios Kotsiras, beneficiaries will receive retroactive rent rebates during the first quarter of 2026 for payments that were not made in November. Additionally, from now on, two rent rebates announced by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will be regularly paid every November.
The November payment covers the current year and is established as a permanent system for these specific categories of workers, ensuring stable support for housing costs.
Rent rebate amounts and eligibility requirements
The rent rebate amount for the 50,000 public employees is calculated using the same rules that apply to the general framework of the measure. The maximum amount for primary residence remains at 800 euros, with an additional 50 euros for each dependent child.
Additionally, the rebate cannot exceed 1/12 of the total annual rental expense declared to the tax authority, ensuring that the amount paid corresponds to the actual monthly rent.
This way, 2026 shapes up as a year of multiple payments for specific beneficiaries, with the rent rebate serving as substantial relief for increased housing costs.
