In areas where temperatures consistently record very low values, the subsidy can reach up to €1,200 to cover the increased heating costs.
Heating allowance: Who is eligible
The allowance applies exclusively to the main residence, whether it is owned, rented, or provided property. Eligible recipients are those who use heating oil, natural gas, LPG, district heating, electricity, firewood, or pellets, with the clarification that geographical and climatic variations are taken into account for specific heating categories. The measure does not include guests and those who do not meet the required income and asset criteria. Payment of amounts will be made in installments. By December 23, the advance payment will be credited for bills up to November 30. The second phase of payments is scheduled by May 29, 2026, and concerns consumption of heating oil, natural gas, electricity, and solid fuels. In July, the final clearance will follow for those using natural gas and district heating until the end of March.
The allowance is tax-free and non-seizable, is not offset against debts to the State, and is not subject to withholding. The relevant ministerial decision determines the procedure for checking supporting documents and appeals, as well as cases for returning amounts that may have been paid incorrectly.
