This coming Friday, November 28, 2025, the housing allowance will be paid to more than 1 million beneficiaries for primary and student housing. The Independent Authority for Public Revenue (IAPR) is completing the necessary cross-checks between tax returns and rental contracts in recent days for the payment of financial assistance. The subsidy amount reaches up to 800 euros for primary residence, while an additional 50 euros is provided for each dependent family member. Similarly, for student housing, each student is entitled to rent refund up to 800 euros.

Rent refund: Application process for non-payment of allowance
Tenants who meet the required income and asset criteria but do not receive the rent refund have the option to submit a relevant application. The process is carried out through the myAADE digital platform, in the “My Requests” application. Interested parties must submit a request for examination of prerequisites to the competent IAPR service, attaching the appropriate supporting documents. Note that the deadline for submitting the request expires on December 31, 2025.
Main reasons for non-payment of rent refund
Non-payment of the housing allowance may be due to various factors concerning the application of legal prerequisites. Specifically, problems may arise from the application of student housing criteria or failure to meet required conditions in cases of multiple student rentals. Additionally, discrepancies in rent amount constitute a common cause of rejection, especially when a higher amount than the actual contractual amount has been declared. In these cases, beneficiaries must provide bank statements of rent payment and the corresponding lease agreement.
After checking the supporting documents and confirming compliance with legal prerequisites, a list of beneficiaries is sent to the General Directorate of Electronic Governance and Public Data for payment of amounts.
Income and asset limits for the allowance
Income criteria vary according to the family status of applicants:
- Single: maximum annual income 20,000 euros
• Married or civil partnership: maximum family income 28,000 euros, increased by 4,000 euros per child
• Single-parent families: maximum family income 31,000 euros, increased by 5,000 euros for each additional child after the first
Regarding asset criteria, the total value of family assets may not exceed 120,000 euros for single-person households, with an increase of 20,000 euros for each additional member.
Tenants who show delays in rent payments will receive reduced or zero refund. IAPR’s automated mechanism distinguishes consistent payers from those with unpaid obligations. In cases of uncollected rents, the allowance calculation is not based on the agreed contract amount, but exclusively on amounts declared in form E2 as actually received by the owner.
The housing allowance is characterized as tax-free and unseizable, while it is not subject to offset against public debts. However, submitting false or falsified information carries serious penalties. If submission of inaccurate lease declarations is found, the allowance is considered unduly paid and must be returned with interest and surcharges. Additionally, the violating tenant is excluded from similar subsidies for a period of three years.
