Metlen’s announcement
METLEN achieved significant milestones with the successful completion of Gas Turbine First Fire and Base Load operation at the Hirwaun Power Generation Station, which is one of three new Open Cycle Gas Turbine (OCGT) stations it is constructing in the United Kingdom for Drax company.
These milestones mark the beginning of the final commissioning phase, confirming system reliability and the station’s readiness for safe commercial operation.
The Hirwaun station, along with the two other OCGT stations that METLEN is constructing for Drax, is expected to provide adequate electrical power during periods of high demand or when there is no energy production from renewable sources, such as wind and solar. This ensures electrical grid stability for households and businesses.
When fully operational, the Hirwaun station will offer flexible and immediate power generation, contributing to securing the United Kingdom’s energy adequacy while supporting the transition to a lower-carbon energy system. This project reflects METLEN’s high specialization in implementing complex energy infrastructure projects of strategic importance to the United Kingdom.
