IKEA: The new OMMJÄNGE limited collection
The collection includes handcrafted home items with emphasis on material quality, such as solid pine wood, wool, ceramic and glass. Each piece bears the signature of traditional Swedish folk art while simultaneously meeting the needs of contemporary lifestyle, offering practicality and high aesthetic value. Colors, shapes and smart solutions compose the distinctive OMMJÄNGE collection. The wooden trays are inspired by traditional Swedish “svepask” boxes, in teardrop shapes with ergonomic details that make carrying and storing them easy and decoratively flexible. The storage bench combines the practicality of 19th-century chests with modern motifs and the ability to change the closure or fabric, while the curved cabinet references the era’s decorative storage furniture, offering elegance and functionality. The table with folding leaves revives the idea of flexible furniture for small spaces, while the chair with slightly reclined back and reinforced construction ensures comfort and stylistic detail. The triangular stool, small and lightweight, is inspired by traditional stools and adapts easily to any point in the home.
Inspiration for designers Maria Vinka and Matilda Hunyadi came from an 1846 painting depicting a bride in the Swedish countryside. The black wedding dress, red roses and geometric motifs of the artwork became the creative foundation for the OMMJÄNGE collection. With this collection, IKEA shows how values and ideas from the past can inspire solutions for today – always with the familiar Scandinavian spirit of simplicity, durability and warmth.
