Fourteen new documentary productions and co-productions by COSMOTE TV are coming to COSMOTE HISTORY HD for the 2025-26 television season. Greece’s only channel dedicated exclusively to the country’s history and culture, celebrating its 10th anniversary this new season, will continue to highlight events, personalities and places that shaped our identity through captivating narratives, rare archival material and modern cinematic techniques. Immediately after airing on COSMOTE HISTORY HD, the documentaries will also be available on COSMOTE TV’s On Demand service.
“Dark deaths in antiquity”: First premiere of the season
The new season on COSMOTE HISTORY HD opens on Sunday, September 21 at 21:00 (also live on COSMOTE TV’s YouTube channel), with the new documentary series produced by COSMOTE TV, “Dark Deaths in Antiquity”. Through 10 episodes, the famous “Archaeostoryteller” Thodoris Papakostas investigates the deaths of great personalities of antiquity, bringing to light hidden secrets, power games, motives and strategies. The first episode is dedicated to the ancient philosopher Empedocles, who created a legend around his name… and perhaps around his death.

The popular show with Christos Vasilopoulos returns to COSMOTE TV for its 10th consecutive year, to reveal through testimonies and extensive research, events that marked people’s lives and shaped Greek history and culture.
On the wings of World War II
The 4-episode series highlights the unequal but heroic struggle of Greek aviation from 1940 to 1944. Through rare archival material – photographs, documents, flight logs and medals – daring operations, fierce air battles and stories of self-sacrifice that wrote a unique page of World War II in Greek skies are illuminated.

Away Goals
Takis Fyssas visits Europe’s most iconic stadiums, meeting Greek and foreign footballers on a football journey full of memories and emotions.
Blue forests
The 4-episode series follows four scientists exploring the Mediterranean’s “Blue Forests” – Posidonia meadows – in Greek regions including Sitia, Kavala, Lemnos, Zakynthos, Gyaros, Anavyssos, Kymi and Skyros.

A documentary about the history of Greece’s premier cultural institution. The documentary honors the 70 years of the Athens and Epidaurus Festival, illuminating its journey through archival material and testimonies from significant creators. A co-production with the Athens & Epidaurus Festival and ELC.
Carved souls
Stavros Psyllakis’s award-winning documentary presents the story of Swiss dentist Julien Grivel who treated Hansen’s disease patients (lepers) in Greece free of charge for 26 years (1972-1998), in an inner journey that helped him see the world and life differently.
The seven wonders of the ancient world
Based on ten years of research by distinguished historian Bettany Hughes and her eponymous book (2025), the series depicts the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World in Egypt, Turkey and Greece. Using advanced digital techniques and cinematic aesthetics, the documentary showcases 4,000 years of human history. An international co-production with Keshet International and SandStone Global Productions.
Mikis
Commemorating the 100th anniversary of great Greek composer Mikis Theodorakis’s birth, this 8-episode series is dedicated to his life and work. Through unique and original archival material, live performances and international collaborations, the documentary highlights Theodorakis’s enormous influence on music, culture and politics, illuminating his decisive contribution to the country’s artistic and social life, as well as his work’s global impact. A co-production with TANWEER Productions and View Master Films.
Places of Hellenism
The animated historical documentary series returns with new episodes to present the history of new locations including Psara, Cyprus, Kalamata and Trieste. A co-production series with Animasyros.
Polychromy: The archaeology of colors
Using the power of new technologies, researchers worldwide reconstruct the original appearance of iconic monuments and artworks: from the palaces of Knossos and Parthenon sculptures to the Venus de Milo. Through expert interviews, three-dimensional reconstructions and impressive cinematography, the documentary brings to light the “living” image of the ancient world and invites us to see classical art as it truly was: colorful, impressive and full of life. An international co-production with ARTE.
Delphi: Heart of ancient mysteries
Through dramatized 3D reconstructions, revelations of new findings and interviews with leading archaeologists, the documentary aims to create a virtual representation of the city of Delphi and its myths. An international co-production with France Televisions.
Cradle of democracy
Through dynamic storytelling combining historical research, archaeological documentation and modern visualization, the documentary revives the history of Athenian Democracy and the birth of institutions that marked Western civilization. It also follows the excavation progress at Athens’ Ancient Agora from 1931 to today, illuminating the scientific research that revealed the space where the foundation of democratic ideals was built. An international co-production with France Televisions and ANEMON productions.
