The first and only healthcare institution in Greece to officially join the international PERT Consortium network is the Athens Medical Center, earning the title of founding member of the PERT Consortium in Greece. This distinction seals the collaboration that began in 2020, when the Athens Medical Center established its multidisciplinary pulmonary embolism response team.
Through this partnership, Athens Medical Center actively participates in a global effort to document, analyze and improve the management of a serious and often life-threatening condition. The PERT Consortium, headquartered at Massachusetts General Hospital, is the most recognized international organization for the multidisciplinary approach to pulmonary embolism. It maintains the world’s largest database of related cases and shapes clinical guidelines in the USA, Europe and internationally. The recognition of Athens Medical Center as an international partner demonstrates the high scientific standards and organizational readiness of the Athens Medical Group.
The multidisciplinary team at Athens Medical Center, connected to the international PERT Consortium network, ensures immediate, coordinated and specialized care for patients with pulmonary embolism, emphasizing early diagnosis, the application of internationally recognized treatment protocols, and continuous monitoring. Additionally, patients gain access to innovative therapies through participation in international clinical trials. This collaboration was organized and implemented under the scientific supervision of Dr. Angeliki Eleftheriou, Director of the Cardiology Clinic at Athens Medical Center, who stated: “Our participation in the PERT Consortium represents the culmination of a long-term and coordinated effort to provide Greek patients with the most immediate, multilevel and modern care in pulmonary embolism management, based on the strictest international standards.”
