TEXAN, the pioneering Greek company in source-separated recycling and circular economy, presented for the first time the New Solar-Powered Mobile Recycling Hub – the world’s first energy-autonomous mobile recycling center, at the 89th Thessaloniki International Fair.
This represents a global innovation, with the New Solar-Powered Mobile Recycling Hub marking the next step in the circular economy. It is fully energy-autonomous thanks to solar panels and stores electrical energy in a battery array for uninterrupted operation. It has been specifically designed for islands, coastal areas, smaller cities, towns, mass catering venues, as well as concerts, beaches, festivals and events, where permanent infrastructure installation is not feasible. This particular hub recycles plastic and metallic materials.
During an official presentation to media representatives held on Sunday, September 7 at the 89th Thessaloniki International Fair, TEXAN’s President, Mr. Apostolos Mourgos, stated: “The most important message is that recycling is entering a new era and Greece can lead by example. As pioneers in the circular economy and environmental innovation, we are committed to offering solutions that make a difference. The New Solar-Powered Mobile Recycling Hub is the next step. The future of recycling and sustainable development is here” & added: “We are here to contribute to the national effort to achieve European targets. In 2025, the EU target for each member state amounts to 50% recycling of plastic, metallic and glass materials. Greece currently stands at 19%, so it’s obvious that we all need to try harder. Together with Giannis Antetokounmpo, TEXAN’s Recycling Ambassador in Greece, as well as all of you, we want to and can make this a reality. Because, as Giannis tells us: In recycling, we are all one team. We are TEXAN!”

Additionally, TEXAN participated dynamically this year as a major sponsor in the 5th Economist Thessaloniki Metropolitan Summit, supporting the institution for 5 consecutive years. On Friday, September 5, Dr. Panagiotis Mourgos, TEXAN’s CEO, participated in a panel titled “Business and Innovation in an Emerging Investment Hub,” alongside Deputy Minister of National Economy & Finance Mr. Nikos Papathanasis, President of the Hellenic Federation of Enterprises Ms. Loukia Saranti, Vice President of Eldorado Gold & President of Hellas Gold Mr. Christos Balaskas, and CEO of Sani/Ikos Group Mr. Andreas Andreadis. The discussion highlighted investment prospects and challenges of the circular economy in today’s economic and geopolitical environment.
Dr. Panagiotis Mourgos stated: “Our goal is to create an economic model that ensures sustainable development, with long-term solutions to modern challenges. TEXAN consistently invests in Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives for the environment, education, health and society, while simultaneously emphasizing human resources, having already created almost 600 new jobs, targeting 1,000 by early 2026. This year’s presentation of the world’s first Solar-Powered Mobile Recycling Hub, a project by Greek engineers from TEXAN’s ‘Research and Development – R&D’ department at its factory in Pallini, which is already planned for export to European markets, proves that Greece can become a stable investment destination, with innovative solutions that create value for society and the environment”.

TEXAN’s Recycling Centers are located at more than 500 points throughout Greece: in the Municipality of Athens & municipalities of the Attica Region, in the Municipality of Piraeus, in the Municipality of Thessaloniki, in the Peloponnese Region, in Crete, in the Municipality of Chalkida, and are expected to expand to other regions and municipalities in Greece.
Note: Thessaloniki International Fair visitors have the opportunity to see the New Solar-Powered Mobile Recycling Hub up close, get informed by TEXAN’s specialized staff, take photos with the Recycling MVP award and collectible items signed by Giannis Antetokounmpo – Most Valuable Protector (MVP) and Recycling Ambassador in Greece, recycle plastic and metallic materials on-site, and participate in the “Most Valuable Protectors of Recycling Contest,” competing for technology prizes.
