Just steps away from Alykes beach, there exists a small paradise that one can hardly imagine. Archontiko Angelou is not an ordinary hotel. It is a building with soul that keeps alive the atmosphere of another era. Built in 1895, it originally served as a summer residence. Since 1978, it has opened its doors to visitors, always maintaining its character. The rooms, just nine in total, give a sense of intimacy and make you feel like you’re staying in the old house of a beloved relative. The thick stone walls, wooden roof with reeds and natural materials keep the interior cool without needing air conditioning.
This stone-built “refuge” is hidden on an estate that spreads over more than five acres filled with olive trees, vineyards, fig trees and all kinds of aromatic plants and flowers. The garden seems as if it was made especially for those who want to “disappear” from today: tables scattered under the shade of trees, pathways with bougainvillea and jasmine…
Every morning, guests wake up with an irresistible desire for the à la carte, sweet or savory breakfast. Tables are set at different spots in the garden under the trees and fill with homemade recipes, made with love and organic ingredients from the region. Since 2019, the first meal of the day is 100% vegetarian and gluten-free, containing no animal products whatsoever.
Even if you’re not vegan, the purity wins you over: fresh seasonal fruits from the garden, tomatoes, vegetables, olive oil and herbs. The homemade bread and gluten-free cakes are made by owner Marianna Angelou, ensuring better quality and nutritional value.
The almond milk and cheese are homemade, as well as the vegan butter and jams made from organic fruits that are served directly from grandma’s jars. Freshly ground coffee, variety of organic teas and herbs, freshly squeezed juice, fruit salad.
Everything tempts you to try it, even if you haven’t chosen to stay at Archontiko. You can visit and experience the distinctive, unique breakfast experience.
