At a special event, Athenian Brewery presented its 2024 Socio-Economic Impact Study, once again confirming its steady contribution to the Greek economy and society. During the event, the company also officially introduced its new Chief Executive Officer, Sebastian Sanchez. He presented the positive results of the year, emphasizing the company’s commitment to sustainable development, strengthening local production, and supporting society through concrete actions.
Athenian Brewery: Dramatic increase in socio-economic impact in Greece
According to data from the new Socio-Economic Impact Study presented at the event, the total added value created by Athenian Brewery in 2024 reached €763 million, marking an impressive 85% increase compared to 2021. This amount corresponds to 0.32% of the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), making the company one of the most significant industrial forces in Greece. The company’s multiplier effect on the domestic economy is also noteworthy: for every €1 of direct contribution to GDP, an additional €4.9 of added value is generated in other segments of the Greek economy, demonstrating the broader impact of its business activities.
Critical contribution to public revenues and employment
The total contribution to public revenues for 2024 reached €764 million, an amount corresponding to 0.70% of the state’s total tax revenues. Athenian Brewery thus emerges as a strategic “donor” to the Greek tax base. On the employment front, the company directly, indirectly, and induced affects approximately 37,000 jobs, showing an increase of over 40% compared to 2021, while about 14,000 households benefit directly or indirectly from its activities. During the report presentation, special mention was made of “Smart Seeding,” a new initiative by Athenian Brewery that supports the first and largest contract barley cultivation program in the country, which the company has been operating for the past 16 years.
In collaboration with the Agricultural University of Athens, an innovative smart farming platform is being created, which will enable the company’s partner-producers to maximize their crop yields while reducing their environmental footprint. The impact of this action further reinforces the company’s socially responsible character and is recognized as a best practice model in the industry.
The new Chief Executive Officer of Athenian Brewery, Sebastian Sanchez, stated:
“The data from this year’s report leaves no room for doubt: Athenian Brewery today constitutes a substantial and stable force in the Greek economy. We create value, strengthen incomes, support households, and move forward with commitment toward a sustainable future”. Internationally recognized methodology – Indisputable results The 2024 Socio-Economic Impact Study was conducted by EY and is based on the internationally recognized Input-Output methodology, utilizing both the company’s internal data and information from ELSTAT and Eurostat, lending credibility and scientific weight to the conclusions.
