Archontiko Angelou: an unconventional hotel
Just a few steps away from Alinda beach, there exists a small paradise that one can hardly imagine. Archontiko Angelou is not an ordinary hotel. It’s a building with soul that keeps alive the atmosphere of another era.
The mansion was built in 1895 and originally served as a summer residence. Since 1978 it has opened its doors to visitors, always maintaining its character. The rooms, just nine in total, give a sense of intimacy and make you feel like you’re staying at the old house of some beloved relative. The thick stone walls, wooden roof with seaweed and natural materials, keep the interior cool without needing air conditioning. For those who want a bit more coolness, there are fans and – in strictly limited numbers – air conditioning.
This stone-built “refuge” is hidden in an estate that spreads over more than five acres filled with olive trees, vineyards, fig trees and all kinds of aromatic plants and flowers.
The garden seems like it was made especially for those who want to “disappear” from today: tables scattered under the shade of trees, paths with bougainvillea and jasmine…

Every morning, guests wake up with an irresistible mood for the à la carte breakfast. Tables are set in different spots in the garden under the trees and fill with homemade recipes, made with love and organic ingredients from the local area. Since 2019, the first meal of the day is 100% vegetarian and gluten free, containing no animal products whatsoever.
Even if you’re not vegan, the purity wins you over: fresh seasonal fruits, tomatoes and olives from the garden, aromatic oil, homemade bread and cake, jams served straight from grandma’s jars. Everything invites you to try it. There are also gluten-free options, so no one feels – nutritionally – deprived.
Only… natural noise allowed
Something that makes Archontiko special is its quietness. You won’t find televisions or radios spoiling the atmosphere. The only thing that’s “allowed” is bird song and the rustling of leaves. For those however who connection to civilization is essential, wifi exists almost everywhere. This isn’t about a classic vacation stay. It’s an experience that fills moments with images, tastes and memories. It’s the place that invites you to relax, sleep under the trees, talk with people who think simply and live closer to nature. Even if you’ve never tried something similar, you’ll leave with the feeling that you found a piece of “old Greece” that breathes in the present.
