A historic step for Greek entrepreneurship was achieved by METLEN Energy and Metals, listing its shares on the London Stock Exchange (LSE). This development marks the beginning of a new era both for the company itself and for the presence of Greek industry in international capital markets.
At the trading launch ceremony, METLEN’s Chairman and CEO Evangelos Mytilineos characterized the listing as a “historic milestone,” noting:
“This is not simply a listing, it is a statement of intent.” Reflecting on the Group’s journey, he noted that METLEN has evolved into a global leader in the energy and metals sectors, with presence in 42 countries and over 9,000 employees. Special reference was made to the success of the recent voluntary public share exchange offer, with an acceptance rate above 90%, which confirmed the company’s strategic maturity and international prospects.
The choice of the London Stock Exchange is considered strategically significant:
“This is not the end of an era, but the beginning of a new one. The London listing opens the door to larger capital markets and visibility, with the goal of inclusion in FTSE UK indices by September,” declared Mr. Mytilineos. Meanwhile, he reiterated METLEN’s commitment to disciplined investments, operational excellence and dedication to progress: “We are not changing course, we are accelerating the momentum we have already created. And we are absolutely ready.”
Historic firsts
METLEN’s listing is accompanied by a series of innovations and achievements:
- It is the first company to trade in euros on the LSE, highlighting its European character.
- The LSE now serves as the company’s primary market, with the Athens Stock Exchange remaining as secondary.
- The LSE entry represents the culmination of the successful share exchange with participation above 90%.
- With presence in over 40 countries and on five continents, METLEN strengthens its international footprint as a leading force in the energy and metals sectors.
International recognition
Julia Hoggett, CEO of the London Stock Exchange, warmly welcomed METLEN and Mr. Mytilineos, stating:
“It is our honor to celebrate METLEN’s listing on our market. Today’s listing is the largest European listing on the LSE in the last five years and one of the three largest globally for 2025.”
She praised the company’s long journey, which began in 1908 in Piraeus as a family metallurgical business and evolved — through vision, innovation and leadership consistency — into a global force with over 9,100 employees. “With the support of London investors, we are confident that METLEN will not simply achieve its goals, but will conquer even higher peaks,” she concluded.
