A spectacular showcase by young swimmers marked the conclusion of the groundbreaking free swimming lessons program “Aqua On The Move” on the island of Hydra. Organized for the first time this year by the Hydra Nautical Club, in partnership with the Municipality and with the generous sponsorship of Pool Sport Aquatics, the program brought together more than 70 children who trained in a fully organized and supervised environment, guided by specialist coaches, trainers, and lifeguards. The event was held at the Hydra Middle and High School. At the program’s closing ceremony, children demonstrated everything they had learned over the past few weeks, swimming with ease and confidence to warm applause from proud parents in attendance. The overwhelming response from both children and parents has strengthened the intention to continue the initiative next season, with Hydra Nautical Club president Thodoris Moustakareas emphasizing that the goal is to establish the program as a permanent fixture — because, as he noted, “our island needs it.”

What is Aqua on the move?
“Aqua On The Move” is a comprehensive swimming education program built around a specially designed lightweight, above-ground, prefabricated swimming pool measuring 10 meters in length. Complete with all necessary electromechanical equipment and supporting infrastructure for safe and reliable operation, the setup also includes a dedicated team of qualified coaches, trainers, and lifeguards. Together, these elements create a fully organized and controlled learning environment that can be deployed at any given location.
An overwhelmingly warm reception for the program
Hydra Nautical Club president Thodoris Moustakareas spoke with great warmth about the remarkable progress the children had made. In his brief address, he described the initiative as one that was clearly embraced by the entire community and delivered real benefits to the children of Hydra. “Congratulations to all the children who took part in this first Aqua on the Move that we organized. We must never forget that swimming, above all, must be practiced safely. For this reason, I want to thank the specialized aquatics company Pool Sport Aquatics for providing the pool, the instructors, and for the outstanding quality of service they delivered. I am so pleased to see that through this initiative by the Hydra Nautical Club, the children managed to socialize and develop a genuine love for the water,” said Mr. Moustakareas, adding: “I would also like to thank the parents who embraced and supported our initiative. I believe we will be able to continue this and will do everything possible to establish it as a permanent program — first and foremost, because our island needs it.”
For his part, the island’s Mayor, Giorgos Koukoudakis, highlighted the program’s great success, paying tribute to the more than 70 children who took part. Parents, children, and friends of the Hydra Nautical Club have already made an early date for next season, while the young swimmers received commemorative awards and certificates of recognition for their participation.
