TELEKOM is expanding its network coverage through direct-to-device satellite connectivity in partnership with Starlink. This way, the company will provide connectivity in areas where mobile network expansion is particularly difficult due to restrictions or terrain limitations.
Direct-to-Device: Connectivity beyond traditional mobile coverage
The direct-to-device service will operate exclusively on Starlink’s MSS (Mobile Satellite Service) spectrum and will enable smartphones, when they lose terrestrial mobile signal, to connect directly with satellites, allowing access to data services, video, voice, and messaging.
The number of smartphones compatible with the service is expected to steadily increase until its planned commercial availability in several European TELEKOM markets, including Greece, in 2028.

Greater resilience in emergency situations
By providing direct-to-device satellite connectivity, TELEKOM enhances its network resilience and offers additional security to its customers in situations such as natural disasters or prolonged power outages.
“We provide the best mobile network and continue to invest significantly in expanding our infrastructure. In areas where expansion is particularly difficult, we want to ensure reliable connectivity for our customers. That’s why we’re making the strategic choice to enhance our network with direct-to-device satellite connectivity. For us it’s clear: connectivity creates security and trust. And we provide it everywhere,” stated Abdu Mudesir, Board Member for Product & Technology at TELEKOM.
“We are particularly pleased that, in partnership with TELEKOM, we will offer reliable direct-to-device satellite connectivity to millions of people in 10 countries. This agreement will be the first of its kind in Europe to launch Starlink’s next-generation V2 technology, which will enable the use of data, voice, and messaging, providing broadband access directly to mobile phones,” said Stephanie Bednarek, VP of Starlink Sales.
“Everywhere Network”
Thanks to the high performance of its terrestrial network, TELEKOM offers its customers the best available connectivity, anytime and anywhere. Through its partnership with Starlink, it has the ability to extend the reach of its infrastructure when the terrestrial mobile network is not available.
This creates the “Everywhere Network“, an integrated mobile communications and satellite technology network that will provide comprehensive, resilient, and future-proof connectivity.
