The situation in Crete is causing concern, where a wildfire reignited at 4 AM in various areas of Ierapetra, centered around the Achlia settlement. Strong winds reaching up to 8 Beaufort are significantly hampering firefighting efforts in the area.
Fire service forces are being continuously reinforced, with reinforcements arriving from Athens, both through military aircraft and passenger ships. According to information so far, the fire has caused serious damage: houses have been burned, while several hotels in the area have been evacuated as a precautionary measure.
Despite the difficult situation, the evacuation of residents and tourists was carried out safely, with no injuries reported.
Fire service forces continue to operate around the clock.
