Applications for the heating allowance begin on Monday, November 10, according to a joint press release from the Ministries of National Economy and Finance & Environment and Energy and the Independent Authority for Public Revenue. The allowance is granted to individuals for the consumption of heating oil, lighting oil, natural gas, LPG, firewood, and biomass or thermal energy through district heating or electricity.
For determining an individual as a beneficiary, the following income and asset criteria must be met:
- Annual household income must not exceed €16,000 for single-person households and €24,000 for couples. This limit increases by €5,000 for each child. For single-parent families, the income limit is €29,000, which increases by €5,000 for each child after the first. Total gross household revenue from business activity must not exceed €80,000, to ensure better targeting of beneficiaries.
- Beneficiaries’ assets, as determined from the 2025 ENFIA administrative assessment act, must not exceed €200,000 for unmarried individuals, widowed or separated persons, and €260,000 for married couples or civil union partners and single-parent families. In all cases, the amount increases by €40,000 for each dependent child.
For calculating the allowance, several factors are considered, such as the climate severity of each area and the required energy consumption for heating a building.
- The allowance each beneficiary receives cannot be less than €100 or exceed €800. The maximum amount increases up to €1,200 for settlements with increased energy needs. Only one type of fuel can be subsidized per beneficiary and for purchases of at least double the value of the subsidized heating fuels.
- Purchases of heating fuels or thermal energy must be made between October 1, 2025, and March 31, 2026. Specifically for heating oil, the subsidy period begins from October 15, 2025, at a price of €1.14/liter. Finally, for subsidizing firewood and biomass (pellets), purchases must have been made from June 1, 2025, to March 31, 2026.
Application submissions are expected within the first half of November
Application submissions are expected within the first half of November. If applications are submitted by potential beneficiaries by December 5, 2025, they will receive 60% of the allowance amount paid to them during the previous winter period 2024-2025 as an advance payment.
Interested parties submit their applications electronically through the myHeating platform on the myAADE digital portal (myaade.gov.gr), following the path Applications > Popular Applications > myHeating, using TAXISnet access codes to be registered in the Heating Allowance Beneficiaries Registry. Payment of the heating allowance is made through banks or other credit institutions in 3 installments. The specific payment dates are as follows:

- By May 29, 2026, for purchases concerning consumption from October 1, 2025, and specifically for firewood and pellets from June 1, 2025, to March 31, 2026, for all purchases invoiced by April 15, 2026, provided required data is registered by April 30, 2026. Specifically for natural gas and district heating thermal energy consumption, an additional payment is made by July 31, 2026, for purchases concerning consumption from October 1, 2025, to March 31, 2026.
The heating allowance is tax-free, unseizable, not subject to any withholding, and is not offset against any debts the beneficiary may have to the Greek State.
The Joint Ministerial Decision further describes in detail the procedure for checking prerequisites, payment of amounts, and the procedure for submitting potential objections and calculating undue payments and imposing fines.
Specifically, regarding heating oil purchases, within the framework of smooth market adaptation to the new application processing and control procedure and data submitted to AADE, and to ensure orderly and uninterrupted allowance payment to beneficiaries, petroleum product trading companies are obligated to transmit purchase data as follows:
- From the heating oil distributors information system (DIPETHE) for purchase documents issued from the start of heating oil distribution until December 31, 2025,
- From the digital platform myDATA or AADE’s e-send information system for purchase documents issued from January 1, 2026, onwards.
