Electricity subsidies: Eligibility criteria and business categories
Eligible recipients of electricity subsidies are businesses with a turnover for fiscal year 2023 of up to 10 million euros. Businesses are categorized into 4 groups based on:
• The amount of gross revenue for tax year 2023
• The primary business activity code as declared in the AADE tax registry
High energy consumption businesses, such as bakeries, pastry shops, and dry cleaners, receive double the subsidy amount compared to other categories.
Exclusion of businesses with electricity theft
For the first time in a similar electricity subsidy program, businesses that have committed verified electricity theft are excluded. These cases amount to 32,000, resulting in total savings of approximately 3 million euros. These amounts will be allocated to the overall budget of the support framework for businesses with variable electricity tariffs.
Electricity subsidy example
As an example, a bill with supply charges of 692.03 euros for 30 days of consumption received a quarterly subsidy for the December 2024 – February 2025 period of 189.13 euros. The final supply charge was reduced to 502.9 euros. This specific consumer had approximately 9,450 kWh consumption during the subsidy quarter or 3,150 kWh monthly.
